Made a shelf!

So... I made this shelf out of balsa wood. I also didn't have any glue at the time, so I used a hand drill and used small wooden dowels to hold it all together. I think it came out really well.What do you think?

This is big news.

I. Finally. Finished. The. Blanket!

After... years... of working on this blanket, toiling away, I finally finished it! I was hoping to have it be a surprise, but my husband walked out while I was finishing up with the edging and he was just like, "Is it finished?" Like, right as I was putting in the last couple of stitches.

Almost ruined it for me.

The only downside is I have a bunch of yarn (not sure if this is a bad thing, pretty sure it's a good thing) and I don't know what to make with it. I don't think I'll make another blanket anytime soon, and if I do it won't be a granny square blanket.

The blanket was definitely a pain to complete... having to make the squares and then sew them together. Either way, though, it's done!

C-C-C-Cubone!

Alright, you know who Cubone is, right? Supposedly, the pokemon wears the skull of his dead mother. A lot of the Pokedex entries reference its "dead" or "deceased" mother. It's a little depressing....

Onward!

Making this guy was tough. Obviously they (I don't know who "they" is... it's like the Queen's "We"... or something) are not going to be showing Cubone without that awesome skull on his dome, so I had to do some research.

People were saying that Cubone is actually the child of Kangaskhan. Working off that I was able to give Cubone an actual face.

Once I gave this awesome dude a face, I needed to make the skull.

I made the skull out of sculpy clay.

It's stuff you bake in the oven and it hardens. It's pretty awesome. If you've never used it I highly recommend it for making stuff. I don't think it really dries out, and once you're done you pop it in the oven for a bit (please Google the instructions because I don't know) you have this awesome creation that's all yours.


It was hard making the skull and ensuring that it fit. I ended up not really detailing the outside too much, as I was more concerned about making sure his noggin fit the inside. I also sculpted a bone for him too because he's Cubone.

Once out of the oven I added the finishing details on the skull. I added some cracks and put in nostrils. I tried to make it look like a skull. Unfortunately during the initial scultping process the horns weren't done evenly (I hate myself for that) so he's a little uneven.

Either way, I think this little dude came out AWESOME!

The Gang Does A Family Portrait

Here's the gang all together...

Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Pikachu!

Ugh... Squirtle...

Alright...

Look... I'm sorry if he's your favorite, but I really don't like Squirtle. Maybe it's because I felt like he was such a douche in the anime, I don't really know, but I don't like him.

But, I was making the starters, so, I had to.

As much as it pained me.

Anyway!

Despite the fact that I just... don't like him... I really do like how his shell came out. Like, I spent so much time on that part of him. I'd have to say that over 50% of the time I spent on him was spent on his shell because I poked those damn lines into it.

He also required a lot of colors too. Six different colors of wool, whereas the others took four or under.

Either way though, here he is, in all of his turtley glory...

May as well make ALL the starters...

Next on the list of starters, after the abysmal Charmander, is Bulbasaur. He's also one of my favorites. It took me a while, but I was able to determine which color wool to use for this little guy. Some of the colors don't match up 100% but that's okay.

The lighter blue is for the body, the darker blue for the face spots, and the green for the bulb. I actually didn't use the lighter green, only the more olive color one. The colors you don't see here are the maroon red color for his eyes and the pink I used for the inside of his mouth.

I LOVE how he came out. Honestly, I think he looks so freakin' happy. Like, he looks like a little puppy givin' you a little puppy smile. No joke, this little dude makes me happy.

So, I decided that since Charmander was me next favorite pokemon, I'd make him next.

It was a mistake.

First, I messed up his eyeballs and had to pick them out to put different onces back in. Then his head became slightly deformed.

I'd have to say the only thing that really came out right with this dude are the colors and his tail. I got his tail right.

Anywho, here he is chillin' next to my man Pikachu.

Pikachu! I choose you!

So, I decided that Franklin didn't cause me enough pain, so I decided to spend more money on more felt and an actual felting kit (the kit also came with some sweet leather glove finger tips, totes sexy).

Anywho, I made this cute little dude!

Pikachu is my favorite pokemon.

I think I might make more eventually :D

So I picked up felting...

I was at Michaels and I picked up a felting kit. I had seen them before, but I didn't know exactly what it was. It looked interesting though. The kit had enough stuff to make a bunny. I did take some liberties during the creation process though.

The kit originally hat the ears standing up straight, but I didn't think that looked that great since its ears are ginormous. So I laid them down. I think it looks better this way. If you decide to pick up felting I'd recommend picking up something to protect your fingers, since felting is basically you just stabbing a pile of wool until it turns into something else.

Blood, sweat, and tears went into this bunny (henceforth known as Franklin). Well, no tears were shed, and neither was any sweat, but I did bleed. A lot.
